St. Paul General Ballpark Proposals

Not site specific, located somewhere in St. Paul

Nothing here is specific to a particular site. These were just some ideas to get people thinking and maybe drooling. It didn't work. St. Paul voters said a resounding no to financing a stadium for downtown St. Paul. Mayor Norm Coleman, who commissioned these, had struck out.

I found this and the one below associated with St. Paul's plans, but they are actually from the proposal for Armour Field, a park which was envisioned as the successor to the old Comiskey Park. The idea was to tailor the park to its site, a la Wrigley and Fenway. In theory, this would have resulted in a park with more genuine quirks, connection to the neighborhood and more intimacy. Though I like the concept, I don't think this would have accomplished what it set out to. After only a bit of investigation, it appears that the upper deck seats would have been almost exactly the same distance from the plate as those in the new Comiskey. About the only advantage would have been its orientation -- toward the Chicago skyline. There are also some very weird dimensions here, and it looks like some parts of this park would have been homerun-proof.

This drawing has something of a new-Comiskey feel to it.

This type of walkway is an amenity which would make a great addition to any park.
